Gluten Free Lunchbox Ideas (without bread): Gluten Free Dip Recipes

Next up in the easy gluten free recipes  for the gluten free lunchbox series: dips!  Okay, if your child is particularly young or particularly messy you may want to skip this one, but I like it because it is easily one of the most healthy of all the gluten free lunchbox ideas and although it is a bit more time-consuming than some of the other ideas, the dips can be frozen (so it’s really easy the second time!)

There are literally hundreds of gluten free dip recipes on the internet.  Don’t just google ‘gluten free dip recipes’ - look for any and adapt them.  These are a few of our favorites:-

Gluten Free Dip Recipes

The method is the same for all of them - which is what makes them easy gluten free recipes - simply put all the ingredients into a blender and process until smooth, then store in a small, airtight container and keep chilled for as long as possible.

For the gluten free lunchbox, serve with crudites such as carrots, celery, peppers, cucumber and gluten free breadsticks. 

Hummus

  • 1 small (200g) tin of chickpeas (garbanzos) drained and rinsed
  • 5 tblspoons fromage frais
  • 1 tblspoon olive oil
  • 1 tblspoon lemon juice
  • pinch of cummin
  • crushed clove of garlic

Avocado and Watercress Dip

  • a bunch of watercress
  • two large avocados
  • a few spring onions
  • one clove of garlic
  • 2 tblespoons lemon juice
  • 4 tblespoons olive oil
  • black pepper to taste

Kidney Bean Dip

  • 1 425g tin kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tblespoons lemon juice
  • 6 tblespoons olive oil
  • 34 rashers bacon, derinded, cooked and chopped
  • black pepper to taste
