Dear Kirsty,
I must say I´m not a keen fan of web sites, so this is really the first blog I´ve ever answered in my whole life. The reason is that I wonder how many things we have in common.
My name is Patricie and I´m a "MUM" of a seven-year old "gluten-free" boy and a four-year old girl. I work as a teacher at a grammar school, which means I teach students from 12 to 20, Czech language, literature, music, the history of arts, and I absolutely love it. We are Christians, members of an active local church as well (which is not common in the Czech Republic where I am from).
My greatest hobby (together with teaching) is studying English, I can´t help but love this language very much. English have helped me to "survive" those difficult years of constant pain, collapses and illnesses of our son. Unfortunately it´d taken five years till the doctors found the diagnose.
So, thank you very much for your blog and God bless you. It´s good to know we are not alone. Patricie

Comment on Should the Whole Family Eat Gluten Free? by Julie Wright

It is a difficult one -the big danger of the whole family eating gluten free is how would you know if the rest of the family were coeliac if they were eating a gluten free diet? If they ate GF at home but gluten containing foods away from home, they may not be getting enough gluten to produce symptoms but it could actually be causing underlying damage in the body.

It might not be until your non-coeliac children leave home & start eating a "normal" gluten containing diet more often that they then start getting symptoms and problems.

My daughter was diagnosed at age 2 and the rest of the family did as you are doing, ate mainly gluten free. My husband & son started having symptoms of coeliac disease but it took 5 years and 3 blood tests before their blood tests were positive and they were then both diagnosed. I do wonder if this was because they were eating a lower gluten diet that it took so long for their blood tests to be positive.

Thankfully, now all 3 of them are diagnosed, they now all follow a fully GF diet and they are all fit and healthy!

Interesting blog.
I do not have a child with Celiac - I am the child.
I work 12 hour shifts (911 dispatch) and am always trying to come up with new ideas for finger foods that are gluten free. (I get tired of fruits and veggies all the time)
I am going to try some of your stuff, and if it is OK with you, I would like to share them with my readers.
I also have quite a few recipes that are simple and kid friendly on my blog. Check it out!
Thanks,
Aunt Jayne

I have a hot cross bun recipe on my blog because missing them is missing an essential part of Easter.
Glad your child was healthy this Easter.
