Finding a good gluten free flour has got to be one of the top priorities when baking for someone on a gluten free diet! Basically, once you have your gluten free flour sorted, you can bake just about anything.
When Jamie first started a gluten free diet, I knew that one of the hardest things would [...]

Jamie has been on a gluten free diet for four months now. My kitchen is as ‘gluten kosher’ as possible: I check labels continually, I haven’t used ‘normal flour’ since the summer and I make every effort to make sure he has a completely gluten free diet.
But sometimes he still gets stomach aches.
Not as semi-permenantly [...]

This is one of our favourite gluten free recipes. In fact we have been eating it for years, and Jamie was very relieved to realise that he could carry on eating it as it is completely gluten free! This is a great recipe, takes about half an hour to cook or can be made earlier [...]

“Will I get a gluten free birthday cake?” was pretty high on Jamie’s list of concerns, having been disgnosed with celiac disease just a month before his ninth birthday. I spent a few evenings searching the internet for a gluten free birthday cake before deciding to just get on with it! So, first in the series [...]

After the trauma of his biopsy, Jamie started straight away on a gluten free diet. His tummy aches had been so bad that it was a relief to stop feeding him food that was effectively poisoning him and we didn’t need to wait for an official celiac disease diagnosis. It was then that the implications [...]

The second stage of celiac disease diagnosis is a biopsy, where a small camera is put down the child’s throat into the small intenstines and a small sample taken from the wall of the intestine to see if there is evidence of damage caused by a reaction to gluten. With children they do this under [...]

Jamie’s Celiac disease diagnosis first came about Easter of this year. We hadn’t noticed any symptoms of celiac disease (not that we would have known what to look for - I don’t think we had ever heard of it!) but he suddenly seemed to be getting a lot of tummyaches. At first we didn’t take [...]
